| Note | Catharine Agnes Young is shown as Katie Agnes on the gravestone she shares with sister Mary Hope and brother James Strang. Her age only appears as age 4 at time of death. She is shown here as dying in 1859, but her death may date to 1860. First Church records do show burials the listing of which begins in 1855. From 1857, the listing appears to be very 'hit and miss' and with broad gaps in time between entries. This era was well before civil death registrations. (A fairly complete looking list of deaths of church members begins in July of 1888. This seems to preclude the listing of Young family members. William Perine Young who died in Montreal in 1890 does not appear on the list.) The Galt Cemetery (later known as Mountview) was established in July of 1868 and it is safe to say that Catharine was buried in the old First Church Cemetery (betimes known as the Strang Burial Ground) well prior to this date. There was a 'dig' at High Park in the 1880s, occasioned by the general deterioration of the cemetery, and remains and stones moved to Mountview. This was probably when the Young plot was established in section 1 at Mountview. |
