| Note | See microfilm LCM-30, United Church Archives. Mary Hope Young was baptized on July 15, 1849. A transcription of section 1 in Mountview records the death of Mary Hope Young at age 10 months, without giving a date of death or birth. Mountview was not in existence at the time of Mary's death and it is safe to say that she was originally buried at the First Church Cemetery on Spruce Street, overlooking Galt's downtown. Betimes, this was known as the Strang Burial Ground. In the 1880s stones and most remains were removed to Mountview as the old cemetery was in poor condition. The old cemetery became known as High Park and is now Centennial Park. Mountview was original established as Galt Cemetery in July of 1868. It was renamed Mountview in 1886. |
