Mary Keachie
ID # 6759, (1829-1872)
Father | Hugh Keachie (1792-1862) |
Mother | Mary Ann Hope McLaren (1796-1858) |
Birth | Mary Keachie was born in 1829. |
Marriage | She married William Hespeler, son of Johann Georg Hespeler and Anna Barbara Wick, on 21 December 1854 at Galt, Waterloo Co., Canada West. GS2987 First Church (Galt) Marriages By license in Galt, December 21st, 1854 William Hespeler, merchant, Baden, Waterloo Mary Keachie, spinster, Galt Witnesses Adam Warnock and Alexander Young Microfilm GS2987 is to be found at the Archives of Ontario. It is possible that it was created from the original First Church record books, though it seems more likely that it was copied from the United Church Archives microfilm LCM-30, which shows the records. GS2987 is not always readable, though is quite clear enough for the Hespeler-Keachie marriage. Beyond that, the witnesses: - Alexander Young was Mary Keachie's brother-in-law; he was married to Ann Eliza Keachie. - Adam Warnock was William Hespeler's brother-in-law; he was married to Stephanie Hespeler. |
Death | She died on 19 August 1872 at Germany. |
Burial | She was buried on 21 August 1872 at Freiburg, Baden (Baden-Wurttemburg), Germany. |
Note | The biography of William Hespeler tells that his first wife Mary died in 1872 and this is correct. She died on one of their trips to Germany and is buried in Freiburg, as is William's second wife, Mary Meyer. We find the information for this on a database presented by Ancestry entitled Baden, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1502-1985 Name Mary H. Hespeler, maiden name Keachie. Age 39. Death 19 August 1872, burial 21 August, 1872. Place of burial Freiburg, Baden (Baden-Wurttemberg). Spouse Wilhelm Hespeler. Parish Freiburg, page nbr. 57;57 Mary's middle name may have been Hope. There is a discrepancy with regards to Mary's age. She was probably closer to 42 years of age. We have no direct statement of her birth or baptism, but census information suggests an approximate birth year for her of 1829. |
