| Note | A birth or baptism record for Alexander Delgaty, son of Alexander Delgaty and Janet Sligh, has not been found. The 1841 census shows him as a son of Alexander and Janet. He is age 24 and said to be born in Ayton, Berwickshire. His parents, Alexander and Janet, were married in 1814 and it seems likely that there was at least one earlier child. A James Delgaty appears as a married man in Ayton in the 1841 census. His age suggests that he was born about 1815. He and his wife Margaret have but one child with them in the 1841 census, but the 1851 census, which also shows the family at Ayton, has a number of children, the names of which suggest that he is a son of Alexander Delgaty and Janet Sligh. Meanwhile, further information for Alexander Delgaty, born approximately 1817, in Ayton, Berwickshire, has yet to be found. |
