| Note | Familysearch's database England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975, shows Martha Westoby as being Christened on February 11, 1827, at Elloughton with Brough, York, England. Her parents are shown as William Westoby and Hannah. The Elloughton records of baptisms agrees with census information for the family in 1841 and 1851 and so Martha's year of baptism as recorded, 1827, is shown here. That she was born in 1827 is a guess. It's probably correct, but entirely possible that she was born in 1826. It should be mentioned here that Oxford County Libraries have an index for cemeteries that shows Martha's year of birth, per the inscription on her gravestone, as being 1828. Some marriage and death registrations of the children of Martha and James show her maiden name as Westoby and the evidence that Martha Fenton, who is buried in Ingersoll Rural Cemetery, and Martha Westoby, Christening date as shown above, is reasonably clear, especially when family names as they appear in census information are taken in account, that they are one and the same person. Death reg. 021947-06 Ingersoll, Oxford Co. Martha Westoby Fenton died Feby 21st, 1906. Age 77 years. Residence Albert Street. Widowed. Baptist. Physician Dr. Williams. Informant James McIntyre. At the time of Martha's passing, James McIntyre was the undertaker. Looking over death registrations at the time of Martha's death, James was the informant for several. James McIntyre survived Martha by only a few weeks, passing away in March of the same year. |
