Note | The years of birth for John Buey and Katherine Osterhout are approximated from their ages as of the 1851 census (actually 1852). Katherine's maiden name is to be found on the death registration of daughter Elizabeth in 1935. Two items for further research, and which for the present time there is no direct evidence: First, in 1991, the Niagara branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed the St. David's United Church Cemetery (formerly a Methodist Cemetery) in Niagara Township, Lincoln County. Page 13 shows: Ousterhout John G. Direct evidence has yet to be found. The second possible family record is to be found in Men of Upper Canada, Militia Nominal Rolls, 1828-1829, Bruce Elliott, Dan Walker, and Fawne Stratford-Devai, 1995, and lists the 1st Regiment of Lincoln Militia which was drawn from Louth, Grantham and Niagara. This was published by the Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. The information was found at National Archives Canada and was not on microfilm and this may still be the case. See page 129. This refers to the Nominal Return of Company no. 8 of which George Adams was captain. It shows two names listed together, those of George and Walter Ousterholt. Considering the probable age range of these fellows, they may well have been Katherine's uncles. Again, no direct evidence has been found. |
