The evidence suggests that Dorothy's grandmother was a Clarke. Perhaps due to a misunderstanding, Clarke was entered as her mother in error.

Kenneth served with the Canadian Army during the First World War. He attested at Niagara Camp on June 19, 1915, and mustered out on September 22, 1919, at Toronto. He is shown as a 'diamond setter' on his attestation papers. He served as a clerk in the C.A.S.C. during the war (Canadian Army Service Corps - they were responsible for supplying the troops in the field). The 1921 census in Toronto shows him as a jeweller. He is living with his mother and brother.

Library & Archives Canada has a series of death cards for WW1 soldiers. They show Nbr. 3187, Kenneth McK. Cumming, death 28-8-63, at Sarasota, Florida, U.S.A.
