| Note | The recording of the family in West Islington in the England census of 1861 is of minimal assistance in locating the birth places of the children, and in any event only the three youngest children are present. The places of birth for the children are recorded here as found in the 1851 census in West Islington. We will note here that the birth place for Joseph Dixon is written on the 1851 census page as Clotherstone, Yorkshire, as well as that of son Richard and daughter Maria. This appears to be an error, the correct name actually being Cotherstone. This was originally in North Yorkshire, but in 1974 was transferred to County Durham. Joseph and Mary probably had one or two other children, probably gone from the parental home by the time of the 1851 census. |
