Looking over marriage registrations for Ashley's siblings, his father's full name was Alexander Summers Cooper. He appears as Alexander Cooper in the 1861 census for South Dumfries. Ashley's mother's maiden name is so poorly written on his death registration as to be beyond decipherment, but the marriage registration for his brother John shows her name to be Jane Vanevera (or Van Every). Certainly, there were Van Everys in the old Dumfries Township and sometimes the name was rendered as Vanevera.

(Ashley's brother William, on his marriage registration, shows his mother to be Jane Van Every. The transcription of St. George Cemetery, as done by the Brant County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society confirms Jane's maiden name as Van Every. Also, it would appear that Ashley's grandparents are buried in St. George Cemetery as well. They are Ashley Cooper who died at age 84 in 1840 and Mary R. Summers who died at age 83 in 1865. )

For all the connection the family had to the South Dumfries-Beverly area, a marriage registration for Ashley and Sarah has not been found.
