This page tells of the marriage of James Lawrie Craise of the Township of Niagara in the Province of Ontario and Janet Rutherford Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, farmer, of South Georgetown in the County of Chateauguay in the Province of Quebec. The brides mother was Jane Angel. The groom was a bachelor and the bride a spinster. The were married on February 20th, 1877. The clergyman's name is nearly illegible, but may be James Collier, D.D.

NotePer the Drouin Collection, the register of the Presbyterian Church at Georgetown, shows the birth of Janet Rutherford Stewart as being on October 27, 1853, and the baptism as being on December 18, 1853. The parents were John Stewart and Jane Angel. Witnesses were William Kerr and Robert Gruer. This appears on folio twentieth of the register.

Janet R. Craise died on February 19, 1932, at Victoria Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, also her residence. Married. Born Ontario(?). Born October 28, 1853. Age 78 years, 3 months, 22 days. At place of death 24 years. Parents John Stewart, born Scotland, Ellen Angel, born England. Physician Dr. C. R. Burnfield. Informant Mr. James L. Craise, Niagara-on-the-Lake, husband. Burial February 22, 1932, Victoria Lawn Cemetery.

Above are two statements as to Janet's date of birth. The one given by her parents when she was baptised is likely correct. It may safely be said that she was born in Quebec.
