Recently, Library & Archives Canada made available the records of Canadian soldiers who served in the First World War and therein the war record of James Aldon Misener is found. James was killed in action on October 30, 1917. Some of the paperwork states that he died in France, but this was probably rather more a label for the theatre of war. One of the pages, image 37, indicates that he died in France or Belgium.

As it happens, his grave is to be found at Tyne Cot military cemetery at Ypres in Belgium and this is far enough away from the French border that, for such a burial place, he must have died in Belgium. A photograph of his grave at Tyne Cot Cemetery is to be found on Find-a-Grave.

He is also commemorated on his family's gravestone in Troy Cemetery and the 1947 booklet, a History of the People of Troy, page 26, under the Misener Family Tree, tells that his name appears on a bronze plaque in the Troy church.

Again see image 37 of his war record: James served with the 5th Regiment of the Canadian Mounted Rifles.
