Cause of death pthisis and spinal meningitis, three months ill. Physician E. E. Book, M.D. Informant M. Morse, Niagara Falls South. Date of report Feb. 4th, 1886. Niagara branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has an index for Morse Funeral Home's records. This reports an order by Charles Misener for 'Mrs. Misener' for January 30, 1886. This is probably the funeral date. It is obvious from the death registration that the informant, M. Morse, was Marsena Morse ( d. 1911), who was for many years the proprietor. The page with the funeral order information has not been sought. A number of such pages from this era are on hand and it's obvious that the place of burial was not typically shown, though it was in later years. Another index, however, shows that Rachel was buried in the Dell Cemetery in Willoughby Township. Ontario Headstones has a photo of Rachel's gravestone which is in poor condition. They present information as transcribed from the Niagara OGS cemetery record and show Rachel's middle name of Louisa. The date they show for her death, January 27, 1886, almost agrees with her death registration (January 28th.) The stone is probably correct. The Morse order date is almost certainly that of Rachel's burial. This seems typical of their records for this era, though in later years it was frequently the date of death. That Rachel was buried in Dell Cemetery has to do with it being a family cemetery. Her mother, Mary Jane, was a Dell. She died young and is buried there. Charles is buried in Fairview Cemetery with his second wife. |
