NoteWe have a block of vacant decades for any information pertaining to Richard Henry Misener. Census information tells us that he went by the name of Henry.

The 1953 group of pages assembled by Harley Misener tells us that Richard Henry Misener was born on March 26th, 1849, to John McLain Misener and Jane Davis. This also tell us that he died on Dec. 12th, 1930. He is said to have lived for a time in Joliet, Illinois and married Sarah, who died April 8, 1924. Some of this information is later verified - see below.

The 1861 census shows him as Henry, age 12, with his parents.

Nothing for Henry thereafter has been found until the 1900 census in Michigan Township, LaPorte County, Indiana, where he is shown as being born in March of 1849 in Canada. He is said to have come to the U.S. in 1868 and this will be at least approximately correct if only considering that he would have been age 19. With him in 1900 is wife Sarah, born September of 1854 and son Herbert R. born in September of 1877 in Indiana.

By the 1910 census, he and Sarah are in what is by then Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana, and he is shown as coming to the United States in 1866. He would have been 17 and, while possible, the year 1868, shown above, is rather the more likely.

Henry and Sarah are still present in Michigan City at the time of the 1920 census.

By 1930, Henry, a widower, is still in Michigan City where he died later that year.

For death information, the Harley Misener papers are shown to be accurate by information entered into Find-a-Grave. The researcher for the page entered an excellent and extensive background for Henry on the page as well as for Sarah whose maiden name was Eastwood.

Henry and Sarah are buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City.
