On the marriage registration for Frank and Margaret, he gave his full name as Frank Gordon Light and his place of birth as London, England. An index for births in England places his birth in the district of Barnet sometime in the second quarter of the year 1885. The district of Barnet spanned the borders of the counties of Middlesex and Hertfordshire. This is in the Greater London area. See ship arrival information below for the more accurate place of birth for Frank, North Finchley, which is in the north end of London.

Census information for England is of interest.

The 1891 census at Finchley shows Frank G. Light, age 5, as being born at N. Finchley in Middlesex County. His father, Edward Light, is a tea dealer.

In 1901, the family is at Highgate. Frank is 15 and his father still a tea dealer.

For the following see Ancestry Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935.

The earliest that Frank appears on a passenger list is that of the arrival of the Tunisian in Halifax on 6 April, 1906. He is shown as age 20, a draftsman, and destined Galt. His place of origin is given, but is overstamped and illegible.

It appears that Frank took Margaret to England in 1913 after their marriage, perhaps partly as a honeymoon, but also so that she could meet his family. The record we have for this is the arrival at Quebec City on the 11th September, 1913, on the Empress of Ireland. Included on the passenger list isMargaret Light, age 30, born Canada, and Frank Light, age 28, born England. They are destined Winnipeg where he is shown as an assistant business manager. It will be noted that his residence was given as Winnipeg when he married Margaret in Galt in August of 1913.

A last sure record for Frank's Atlantic voyages is in August of 1925 aboard the Montnairn. This shows his sailing at Liverpool on August 21 and arrival at Quebec City on August 28. His place of birth is shown as N. Finchley (in England) and notes the name of his father in England, Edward Light, 43 Church Crescent, Church End, Finchley. Frank is shown as an accountant, age 40, destined Galt. He is shown as having been in Canada between May of 1904 and July of 1925.

Frank and Margaret are buried in section 4 of Mountview Cemetery in the family plot of Margaret's parents. They had several children, including a son who is shown on the family gravestone as Pte. James Marshall Light who died in France on July 29th, 1944, and who is buried in the Canadian War Memorial Cemetery at Bretteville-sur-Laize, age 20 years, 2 months, 14 days.

Frank G. Light enjoyed writing verses and a copy of his book of verse is to hand, Rambling Rhymes and Reveries, 1967, 3rd edition. Some of these verses are unquestionably dedicated to his wife Maggie.

The London Metropolitan Archives (via Ancestry) has a notice of the reading of banns for Frank's parents.

From the year 1874, St. Mary, Islington, London, page 13 (marked page 61, but error is obvious):
