| Note | Stephen Thompson Moffatt's record of baptism appears in the First Church book. This is now in the United Church of Canada Archives and appears on microfilm LCM-30. First Church records of deaths for 1869 appear very hit and miss. Stephen's death is not mentioned. The transcription of Mountview Cemetery as done by the Waterloo Region branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, shows the inscription of Stephen's death date on the family grave as 10 March 1869. Rosemary Ambrose has extracted death notices from the Dumfries Reformer for the years 1866-1870. She shows the 24th March, 1869, edition of the paper as dating Stephen's death to 19 March. Either may be correct. The death notice also states that Stephen died at Burnside Farm in Dumfries. A copy of Tremaine's 1861 map of North Dumfries is to be found in Andrew Taylor's Our Todays and Yesterdays, 1970. Unusually, this identifies Burnside Farm as the property of Stephen Moffat, young Stephen's father. |
