MS248 reel 16, Vol. 76, page 10 Waterloo County Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Robert Achison (Acheson), a minister of the United Presbyterian Church N.A., at Galt, for the year ending 31st December, 1863. John Cowan, 33, born Scotland, residing Beverly. Parents Robert Cowan and Helen Armstrong. Ellen Keachie, 26, born and residing Beverly. Parents J. B. Keachie and Mary McKenzie. Witness John Keachie of Beverly. On 7th January, 1863. Robert Acheson frequently married couples at a family home, usually that of the bride's family. Earlier First Church marriage records, as found on microfilm GS2987, would indicate at least the township location, such as Dumfries or Beverly. In 1858, the church began using the new county registration form for their own records and this information was no longer entered. The county registration, above, is also no help. Add to this, Acheson usually entered a Beverly marriage (Wentworth County) with the Waterloo County registrar. As it happens we have further information. Rosemary Ambrose extracted marriage notices from the Dumfries Reformer editions, 1860-65. She records the Cowan-Keachie marriage notice as being entered in the 14 Jan. 1863 edition of the paper. The information is identical to the above with the exception that it notes that the marriage took place in Beverly. Helen is referred to as Ellen and she is described as the eldest daughter of J. B. Keachie. |
| Death | He died on 8 June 1905 at age 76. |
| Burial | He was buried at Section 3, Mountview Cemetery, Galt. |
