| Note | An early marriage record for their daughter shows Ellen as Eliza. She is shown as Ellen in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. Also, in the 1871, the census shows that they have a son Ronald, marked as male, age 8. Comparing ages, it's possible that the enumerator second-guessed himself when it came to filling out the form in ink. This is probably Randilla. Death reg. 030862-10 Galt, Waterloo Co. Eliza Buchanan died November 26, 1910, at the Galt Hospital. Born 1846 in St. George. Age 64. Residence Concession Street. Housewife. Married. Physician Dr. Thomson. Informant John Newman. John Newman was the son of Randilla Buchanan and Leonard Newman. Death reg. at Galt, 030862-10 Eliza Buchanan, died November 26, 1910, born 1846, born St. George, died in Galt Hospital, residence Concession Street. Housewife, married. Along with Doctor Thomson, the informant was John Newman. The spaces for Eliza's parents were not filled in. It seems logical that Eliza is the wife of George Buchanan because of the name of the informant, John Newman. John was the son of Randilla Buchanan and Leonard Newman. The 1901 census shows Eliza's date of birth as August 11, 1842. This is at variance with her year of birth as shown on her death registration, but she herself probably gave her year of birth for the census enumerator, so it's probably correct. |
