Note | A birth registration for Hugh Croll Elliott has not been found. Page 7 of the Ottawa Journal for Wednesday, April 26, 1922, under a column headed People in Parliament, has a biography for William Elliott, M.P., Hugh's father. The last paragraph tells that William Elliott married Eva Croll in 1898 and that they had a son Hugh. The remainder of the paragraph is something of the story of Hugh's youth. After graduation from Galt Collegiate, he enlisted with the Canadian Army and served 18 months with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Siberia. It tells that he passed his 18th birth in Vladivostock. When he was demobilized, he attended the Ontario Agricultural College, where, at the time of the article, he was a 3rd year student. Hugh was active in North Dumfries township administration and page 42 of Andrew Taylor's Our Todays and Yesterdays shows him with other 1967 township council members. World War 1 soldiers' service records are now available for download from Library & Archives Canada. Hugh's record confirms his service with the Canadian expeditionary force in Siberia. |
