Born Canada, resident North Dumfries Parents William Little and Margaret Patton. Witnesses William and Alexander McKenzie of North Dumfries. On June 11, 1874, in North Dumfries, by Rev. W. S. Ball The township clerk, Thomas Ballingal, submitted his registrations to the county level end June and end December of each year. Three registrations appear on this page, the previous two being marriages registered in November of 1874. Ballingal entered a note immediately under the McKenzie-Little marriage to the effect that he only received the registration on 12th November of the year. This was evidently a late filing by the clergyman. An examination of the photo of the original marriage registration shows John's mother's name spelled as Buchan. There is no doubt that this is Margaret Buchanan, the eldest child of Alexander Buchanan and Elizabeth Leece. The witnesses, William and Alexander are clearly the brothers of John and so appear in the North Dumfries census of 1861. William appears with John in the census of 1851. John and Jane name their youngest daughter Bessie Leece McKenzie, obviously after John's grandmother. Finally, John and Jane are buried in the same plot at Mountview Cemetery as are John's parents, John McKenzie and Margaret Buchanan, as well as other McKenzies. |
