Note | Familysearch.org shows a baptism record for Mary Church (transcription, not image) and it presents us with a problem. It shows her baptism as being on 6 March, 1860, at Kenton. It's possible that this is correct if Mary was baptized as an adult. The baptism record does show her parents as William Church and Clementine Sheldrake. It's also possible that the baptism year of 1860 is a mistranscription. Certainly, an 1860-era birth would be well past Clementine's child carrying years. We take a birth year for Mary from the 1851 census at Kenton which shows her as age 10. Add to this, a birth index places her birth in the 3rd quarter of 1840, so 1840 as a birth year is shown here. |
