| Note | Rosemary Ambrose extracted death notices from the Dumfries Reformer, 1853-59. She quotes the September 14th, 1853, issue as recording that John Buchanan, the oldest son of William Buchanan, died on September 10th, 1853, at age 24 years and 4 months, in Dumfries. The Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed Sheffield Cemetery (Beverly Township in Wentworth County) and shows John's gravestone as follows: John Buchannan died Sept. 10, 1853, aged 24 yrs., 4 mos. Note that the Reformer, some five weeks later, tells of the death of John's younger brother William. They are buried side by side in Sheffield. We have no certainty, but it does appear that John and Joanna were twins. |
