Note | Wilder Babcock's estate files (application for Letters of Administration) appear on MS638 reel 18, Hamilton Wentworth Surrogate Court, nbr. 1173. It is immediately evident from inventories that Wilder farmed, but kept inn as well for bar room furniture and liquors are referred to as well as an inn sign and beehives. It would be remiss not to mention that the inventory included two spittoons. The court issued the Letters of Administration to Wilder's widow, Ann. Not mentioned in the Letters of Administration seems to be claims by other family members on Wilder's property. Some information relating to this is to be found on the Beverly Township abstract index for lot 4 of the 7th concession. A fuller statement of these claims and, hence, family relationships, is to be found on microfilm reels GS1422, 1423, and 1424, Beverly Deeds, etc. Fuller information is to be found under notes for Elisha Babcock. We still have no clear idea as to the parentage of Wilder Babcock and his siblings. This is a matter of debate with some very enjoyable correspondents. |
