ID # 3881, (1786-1841)
BirthMary Fonger was born on 15 October 1786.

A registration or date for the marriage of William Roelofson and Mary Fonger has not been found. We take our information from a Short History of the Roelofson Family as it appears on pages 27 to 29 in the 1947 booklet, A History of the People of Troy, compiled and edited by those interested in Historical Research of The Women's Institute of Troy, Ontario. This simply tells us that William Roelofson married Mary Fonger and that they took up land in Beverly Township on lot 3 in the 2nd concession.

DeathShe died on 3 August 1841 at age 54.
BurialShe was buried at Troy Cemetery, Beverly Twp., Wentworth Co..
NoteFonger was a fairly prominent name in what was known as the Jersey Settlement. This was so named because of the number of settlers that came from New Jersey. The area very roughly included Troy, Jerseyville, Lynden, and St. George.

Mary Fonger is the only one of the family we find recorded as being buried in the Troy Cemetery and we only know her surname from the Roelofson Family History. There were several of the family, however, buried in Jerseyville Cemetery in Ancaster Township, a fairly short distance from Troy. An early burial record in this cemetery shows Jacob Fonger, 1768-1829, and Catherine Fonger, died September 1834 at age 63. Very technically, it's possible that they are Mary's parents.

Beyond this, a William Fonger purchased a port of lot 2 in the 1st concession of Beverly Township in 1822. They were almost certainly family members.
