This dates the marriage of George Muma and Jessie Adams to 5 October, 1899, at Kingsley, Iowa. It names George's parents as Nelson Muma and Mary Ann Starr and Jessie's parents as Samuel Adams and Mary Henry. |
Note | No birth registration for George Muma has been found. Birth registrations were not a requirement in Ontario until July of 1869 and it appears that George's birth was rather before, likely not by more than months. George was with his parents in South Dumfries at the time of the 1871 census; he was in Burford with his parents at the time of the 1881 census; and he was in Selkirk, Manitoba, at the time of the 1891 census. He married Jessie Adams in Iowa in 1899. George and Jessie are in Kane, Iowa, in 1900. He is shown as coming to the U.S. in 1895. The 1900 U.S. census has George being born in 1870. This is incorrect. His sister Elizabeth was born in April of 1870 and the 1871 and 1881 censuses make it clear that George was the older child by about a year. We have no direct statement, but George was almost certainly born in South Dumfries Township of Brant County. |
