| Note | She The year of Marriage to William Chapman is approximate and entered to correctly order Eliza's husband in this history. Eliza's death date is based on her death registration (004132-24) found at the Archives of Ontario. The death date of her second husband William F. Chapman is likewise based on his death registration. Eliza's death registration gives her birth place as Brant County. I have made it South Dumfries Township, given the logic of the location of family at the time. One note about Eliza's death registration is that the informant is shown as her daughter, Margaret Chapman. This was an error on the part of the recorder of the information. Margaret's surname was Hyndman, for she was the daughter of John Hyndman, Eliza's first husband. Margaret is recorded in the Toronto City Directories of the era as a Hyndman and as living at the same address as Eliza and William Chapman. 2004-06-14 Today I found the Chapman stone at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. The date of William's birth is based on the inscription on the stone. Also, William and Eliza's son is on the stone, though he is stated on the Mt. Pleasant stone to be buried in St. George. The same applies to his half sister Effie Melissa Hyndman. The Chapmans were living in Waterloo, Ontario, at the time of the 1881 census. By the time of the 1901 census, they were living in Toronto. In 1881 William was a teacher; in 1901 he is a school inspector. |
