| Note | There is an index for the marriage of Flora and Edward: Evans, Flora 19 ' ' m. Roche, Edw. James 24, s/o Wm., 1867 The names for their children are from the 1881 Canadian census which was taken at Chatham, Kent Co., Ontario, as well as an extraction for the years of their births. To date, I have not found them in the 1901 census. The following is the marriage record itself from microfilm MS248, reel 8, vol 23, Kent Co marriages 1858 - 1869, sheet 82, #243: Edward James Roche, 24, Chatham, U. States, s/o Wm. & Mary Ann Roche, married Flora D. Evans, 18, Chatham, Canada, d/o Israel & Minerva Jane Evans, witn: Starr McCrea, Clara Evans, both of Chatham, 3 September 1867 By way of interest, here is a marriage record noted some months prior to the above marriage where Edward and Flora are witnesses: Edwin Marson, 22, Windsor, England, s/o Saml and Mary Marson, married Nettie Blackburn, 17, Chatham, Canada, d/o James & Salina (Sabrina) Blackburn, wit: Edwd Roche, Flora Evans, both of Chatham, 1 January 1867 Nettie Blackburn was a first cousin of Flora's. Nettie's mother, Sabrina Moe Blackburn, was sister of Minerva Jane Moe Evans. At the time of the 1900 U.S. census in Manhattan, New York, Flora is with her second husband Archibald McNaughton in New York. With them are Maud Evans, Flora's sister, and Albert Roche, Flora's son by her first marriage. |
