| Note | The baptism of Gertrude Armstrong is provided in a list of baptisms of the Anglican Diocese of Ontario as presented by Wayne Bower on his website bowergenealogy.ca. This is an excellent resource. Gertrude's baptism is to be found on page 103 of register 2K10 (Just noticed: The dates of birth and baptism are somehow mixed up. The above noted resource is no longer available. With time, it may be available again.) Gertrude's parents are deceased by the time of the 1871 census and she has yet to be found in that census. In 1881, Gertrude, age 15, is living in the Sydenham Ward of the City of Kingston. She is with her grandmother, Amanda Deacon, age 63, and Amanda's daughter Blanche, age 24. They in turn appear to be living under the roof of Sydenham C. McGill and his wife Florence and their children. Florence, according to the 1861 census, is the daughter of Amanda Deacon and sister to Gertrude's mother. At the time of the 1901 census, George and Gertrude are in Ward 3, Toronto. They do not appear to have children present. No record for Gertrude has been found thereafter. There is a death registration for a George Harley Roberts in 1929 in Cobourg, but it is not certain that this is Gertrude's husband. |
