Note | While John and Elizabeth must have spent some time in Galt, by the 1891 census they were in Guelph. John apparently was enumerated twice, for he is also shown as being in Miniota, Manitoba, with his brother George in 1891. The family must have been in the process of moving. By 1901, the family is together in Miniota and the birth of their first Manitoba-born child is dated to 12 November, 1892. The births of the first two children, Ethel and Norma, are registered in Galt. For the three born in Manitoba, we work with either the 1901 census or the index on the Manitoba Vital Statistics web site. This latter has the place and dates of birth of the three children, plus the given names of their mother. It's the birth registrations at Galt that make it clear enough that the mother is indeed Mary Elizabeth Lawrason. |
