Anna Shoup
ID # 3068, (1799-1840)
Birth | Anna Shoup was born on 2 July 1799 at Willoughby Twp., Niagara District. |
Marriage | She married Samuel Wait, son of Jonathan Wait and Martha Smith, on 25 March 1823 at Stamford Twp., Niagara District. See Vital Records of Upper Canada / Canada West, Vol 1: Part 4, Niagara District, 1820-1869, compiled by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai, Global Heritage Press, 2005, page 103. Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Chippawa, Register A, Marriages, 1820-1835. Samuel Wait to Ann Shoup, both of Willoughby. 25 Mar. 1823, Stamford, by banns. By Rev. W. Leeming. The Niagara Historical Society also transcribed these records in 1907 and they were reproduced by the Niagara Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society with the permission of the NHS. The information is essentially the same. No witness names are provided. |
Death | She died on 29 September 1840 at age 41. |
Burial | She was buried at St. George Cemetery. |
Note | A transcription for St. George Cemetery transcribes Anna's stone with her death year being 1849. Another transcription done in 2003 has her year of death as 1840, and this is correct. The stone shows Anna's age as 41 years, 2 months, and 27 days. Taking into consideration that her death year is really 1840, and trusting the transcription of worn stone to be correct, then her date of birth would be 2 July, 1799. See Vol. 1, Death Notices from the Christian Guardian, 1836 to 1850, Donald A. McKenzie, 2008, Global Heritage Press, page 315: Wait, Mrs. Ann, wife of Samuel Wait, was born in Willoughby twp., Niagara District, and attended Mennonite services in her teens, then joined the Methodists at age 21. She died in Dumfries twp., Sept. 29, 1840; survived by her husband and children, the youngest of whom is a girl, 2 weeks old. - Oct. 14, 1840, p. 203, O. No evidence has been found for the survival of the 2 week old child. |
