Note | John Lawrason was with his sister Emily Markle at the time of the 1891 census. She was then a widow and had with her three children. Just what John did for a living is illegible on the census form, but he was no doubt helping his sister with her family. Death reg. 009583-36 Brantford, Brant Co. John H. Lawrason died December 9, 1936. Place of death 23 Nelson St., Brantford. Single. Born St. George on October 9, 1845. Age 91. Farmer. Parents James Lawrason and 'Lena' Bauslaugh, both born Ontario. Informant H.F. Daub, 61 William St. No relation to deceased. Place of burial Mt. Hope, December 12, 1936. While the death registration doesn't say so, we must believe that John is buried with brother Miller and his wife and daughter. The side of Miller Lawrason's gravestone shows a transcription provided by the Brant County branch of the OGS. It reads: John H. Lawrason died October 9, 1845. This inscription was probably done years before and the transcription probably does not include the word 'died' prior to the date. October 9, 1845, is the date of John's birth and his death date would have presumeably been cut after his death. His death date was evidently never inscribed on the stone. The gravestone and the odd other record indicate that John's middle initial was H, but what it stood for is unknown. Our story for John H. Lawrason is very incomplete. Delores MacIntyre, in her book Some Records of the Lawrason Family, mentions an undated clipping in the Woodstock Library that said that John spent some time in Mayville, Tuscola Co., Michigan, and may have been there at the time of his sister Harriet Schermerhorn's death. Also, it appears he was with brother Peter in Stratford as of the 1901 census. |
