Familysearch provides us with two documents that give us some information to the path of Roy's life in later years. At age 30, Roy received a draft card dated June 5, 1917. His address was RFD Nbr 5, Box 189, Decatur, Illinois. He gives his date of birth as May 28, 1887, at Bliss, Michigan. He is shown as a laborer in a dairy. He shows himself as single. It isn't clear if he actually joined the military. In 1942 he received what is sometimes known as the 'Old Man's Draft Card'. It was to register males born on or after April 28, 1877, and on or before February 16, 1897. He specifically states on the form that he had no middle name. His address is Hayden Rd., Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He gives his age as 54 and his place of birth as Bliss, Michigan. He also states that the name of the person who would always know his address was Warren Lawrason of Harbor Springs, Mich. Roy evidently kept in touch with family members at home. The U.S. Social Insurance Death Index shows his death as being in December of 1969 and his last place of residence as Warsaw, Kosciusko, Indiana. |
