Nbr. 459 Date of death May 31, 1878 Alice Lawrason, age 22, place of death Bliss. Born Michigan, housekeeper. Cause of death child birth. Parents Daniel R. Fox and Betsy Ann Fox, both residing Caledonia, Michigan. No evidence has been found that the child survived that Alice was giving birth to when she died. Find-a-Grave has Alice recorded as being buried in Bliss Township Cemetery. Alice died at age 22 in 1878 in Bliss Township, Emmet County, Michigan. In 1878, Alice Lawrason was a subscriber to the Illustrated Historic Atlas of the County of Kent. by H. Belden and Co., Chicago. This at the young age of 20. The list of subscribers shows her post office address as Alaska in Caledonia Township. It would appear that she and Alonzo were there at least at that time. We do not have a date or place of marriage for Alonzo and Alice, but son Jesse for born in 1874, so Alice could not have been older than 17 when she married. We may note that Daniel Fox, Alice's father, was also a subscriber to the 1876 atlas. Daniel's post office was also Alaska in Caledonia Township. Both father and daughter are shown as being in section 8. It may be that Alonzo and Alice were living with her parents at the time. Elnora Fay Lee, in her book A Century of Bliss, 1976, has the family coming to Bliss in the fall of 1875. Alice's subscription to the Atlas would have been made, probably, well before 1876. Familysearch has an index, no image, for a death for a female Lawrason in Bliss Township on 25 November, 1876. The parents are shown as Alonzo and Alice. With no name being given, probably the child did not long survive birth. |
