NoteEmily and Alexander have not been found in the 1891 Canadian census. At the time of the death of Thomas Fawcett in Hamilton in 1896, Emily, and presumeably her family, are said to be in Peoria, Illinois. Her first two children were born in Canada in 1885 and 1887 and Alexander and Emily are in Toronto by the time of the 1901 census. Their time in the United States cannot have been of long duration. Emily's mother was living with the family in both 1901 and 1911.

Emily's date and year of birth is taken from the 1901 census in Toronto. This is at some variance with the year as shown in 1911, but the 1901 census seems the more accurate.

Birth dates for Alexander, Fawcett and Lorna are also taken from the 1901 census. Birth registrations for Fawcett and Lorna have not been found, though they are believed to have been born in Ontario. A birth registration has been found for Nancy.
