NoteShe Our first view of Violet with the Taylor's is the 1901 census as taken at Sydenham Township. There, she is shown as Violet Howard, birth 17 June, 1890, ad(opted) daughter. With Violet's birth name and date, it is possible to locate her birth registration.

Birth reg. 006553-90 Aylmer, Elgin County
Violet May Howard born 17 June, 1890. Parents John Howard, painter, and Frances Adley. Informant John Howard (signed with X), father.

(It is possible that 'Addley' is the rather more correct spelling of Frances' surname.)

A marriage registration for John Howard and Frances Addley has been found and reads:

002936-89 St. Thomas, Elgin county
John Howard, 29, bachelor, painter, Church of England. Born London, residing Aylmer. Parents John Howard and Hannah Meager (or similar).
Frances C. Addley, 19, spinster, born Laval (nearly illegible), residing Aylmer. Methodist. Parents John Addley and Susan Tebo.
Witnesses: Mrs. Boyle and Miss Bell, both of Aylmer.
On 3 June, 1889, at St. Thomas, by Rev. W.H. Boyle (the clergyman's name just might be Bagle.)

Violet is with her parents at the time of the 1891 census, less than a year later. There she is shown as Violet May Howard, age 10 months, and her parents are shown as John Howard, age 32, Church of England, house painter, and Frances, age 21.

What transpired in the next ten years we can't know with certainty. We do know that John Howard and Frances Addley survived for at least a few years for there are four more birth registrations which record Flora Howard, born Aylmer in 1891; John Ambrose Howard, born St. Thomas in 1892; Ernest Austin Howard, born St. Thomas in 1894; and Pearl Eveland Howard, born St. Thomas in 1895.

We do know that Alex and Esther Taylor's daughter Alberta Pearl died in 1897 and we know that Violet was with the Taylor's by 1901. What became of John and Frances Howard, we do not know. So far, they have not been found after the 1891 census. No death registrations for them have been found.

By the time of the 1911 census, Violet is shown as Violet Taylor, age 20, born June 1890.

The same year Violet married Norman Wilson Long in the village of Annan in Sydenham Township. Her birth name is prominent on the marriage registration form.

According to the 1921 census, Violet and Norman are farming in Sydenham Township. They have two children. Beyond this, the trajectory of Violet's life has not been followed, but a gravestone for Violet and Norman has been found. They are buried in Exeter Cemetery in Huron County and their gravestone reads:

Violet Taylor Long 1890-1943 and Norman W. Long 1884-1968
