The handwriting of clerk Wallace McDonald is difficult to read, but, comparing entries with other births on the page, 'yeoman', rather than 'farmer', is written. By this time, 'yeoman' was of rather antique usage, but, in it's day, almost invariably meant farmer. Death reg. 018624-87 Beverly Twp., Wentworth Co. Elizabeth Nisbet died Aug 20, 1887. Age 13-1/2 years. Daughter of M. and H Nisbet. Born Beverly. Methodist. Born Beverly. Cause of death peritonitis 7 days. Physician Dr. Foster. Informant Rev. J. G. Foote of Beverly. Mary is buried in Troy Cemetery next to her father and to her sister Isabella. Her gravestone inscription reads: Mary E. Nisbet died 20 Aug. 1887 aged 13 yrs., 6 mos., 3 dys. Daughter of Matthew and Harriet. Age as of death, given to the day, are often approximate when compared to a birth registration. Mary's age at date of death computes exactly to her date of birth. |
