Note | Rebecca is found with the family, age 9, in the 1851 census, North Street, Poplar. Her birth is recorded inVolume II, page 359, for Poplar. This record has not been ordered. It may be that Rebecca married at Stepney in the first quarter of 1864. See Vol 1C, page 781. This record has not been ordered. Since marriage records are presented in the index for individuals only, it has not yet known as a certainty who she married. It would appear, however, that she married George Steward, born Limehouse approximately 1835. They appear in Poplar in the 1871 census with children George 6, Rebecca 5, Edward age 2, and Arthur 9 months. All the children are shown as being born in Poplar. They have not been found in the 1881 census, nor in the 1881 Canadian census, nor in the U.S. 1880 census. Baptism record: page 203, Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of All Saints, Poplar, in the County of Middlesex, in the Year 1851. Nbr 1624. April 6, 1851 Rebecca parents Benjamin and Ann Himes, residing Poplar. Benjamin is a lamplighter. The clergyman was R. Waugh. Birth date written in beside the baptism records is February 22, 1842. |
