Note | Linnie Booth, age 3, is shown with the Daniel Vrooman family in the 1881 census in Townsend Township in Norfolk County. Her status as a member of the family is not given. Daniel Vrooman died in 1885, but Linnie is still with Maria at the time of the 1891 census in Townsend, though they are both living with Maria's son Solomon and his wife Rebecca. Linnie's relationship to Solomon is shown as 'niece'. No birth registration has been found for Linnie and we have no clear statement as to her parentage. Effectively, she is the foster daughter of Daniel and Maria and so she is shown as such here. Linnie was married to Russell Saville in 1896 in Simcoe Town and there she is shown as Linnie Vrooman, daughter of James and Mary Vrooman for whom we are unable to find reasonable candidates. When Helen Maria Saville married James Kane in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1923, she showed her mother's name as Lynnie Booth, so we must believe that Linnie, or Lynnie as her name was spelled in later years, was aware of her parentage. Lynnie has not been found in the U.S. 1900 census or the 1901 Canadian census, but a birth registration is found for daughter Helen Maria in Norfolk County on July 22, 1900. By the time of the 1905 New York State census, the family is in Buffalo. Russell is shown as a lineman. In the U.S. 1920 census, Russell and Linnie and daughter Helen are still in Buffalo. Russell is shown as a lineman for the telephone company. Helen married in 1923, Russell died in 1928, and by 1930, Linnie is with Hellen and her husband in Lake Worth, Florida. Neither she nor Helen have been located in the United States as of the 1940 census. The Norfolk County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides us with a transcription of Oakwood Cemetery in Simcoe. Russell and Lynnie (no maiden name given) are buried there. Lynnie's year of death is shown as 1942 and Russell's is shown as 1928. |
