| Note | Two marriage registrations and a death registration for children provide us with Mary Ann's maiden name of Coffee. Death reg. 017044-87 Stamford Twp., Welland Co. Mary Ann Russell died June 13, 1887. Age 60. Wife of blacksmith. Born Ireland. Informant Luther Russell, Stamford. A transcription of the burial register of All Saint's Church, Niagara Falls, as provided by the Niagara Branch of the OGS, gives the following information: Mary Ann Russell, age 60 years, wife of Luther Russell, born Stamford (?), buried Fairview Cemetery June 15, 1887. With regard to the above, census information is consistent in locating Mary Ann's birth in Ireland. Census information indicates that Mary Ann was born in 1833. Considering the birth year of approximately 1845 for her first child, Mary Ann would have been remarkably young, even for the times. Her death registration in 1887 gives her age as 60. This would place her birth year to approximately 1827 and is probably closer to the truth. |
