This is an early death registration and registered at the county level. The 1861 and 1871 censuses make it clear that Richard and Margaret resided in Stamford Township. See microfilm GS1 reel 676, application 399, Welland Surrogate Court, County of Welland, for the following: On 22 September, 1869, William James Henley, son of Richard Henley, applied for a grant of administration in the matter of his father's estate as his father had died without a will. William states that he left a wife, Margaret, and himself as his surviving heirs. In this document is a page signed by Margaret 'Henly', apparently in her own hand, surrendering her right as an administrator. |
