Age 13. Born Springford, South Norwich. Methodist. Cause of death brain fever four days. Physician Dr. Collver. Informant C. A. Moore, clerk, Springford. Remarks Reported by letter by C. A. Moore, per John Cooper, registrar. The inscription for Uceba on the family stone in Springford Cemetery shows her year of birth as 1865. This suggests that the gravestone was installed well after Uceba's death for the 1871 census shows her age as 2, which would place her year of birth in 1869. The death registration is correct for her age. The registering clerk seems to have had a problem with Moore's handwriting to show her name as 'Hesba'. Reasonably, this is Uceba and she is shown as such in the 1871 census. |
