NoteAt the time of the 1860 census, George is with his parents and siblings in Smelser Grove, Grant County, Wisconsin. In 1870, he is shown, age 19, with his brother David in Middlefield Township, Buchanan County, Iowa. The census was taken in July and he is shown as having attended school in the past year. He also shown in the same census as being in Smelser Grove with brother David and with his mother. The Middlefield, Iowa census was taken on 19 July and the Smelser Grove, Wisconsin census on 7th July. The Iowa census indicates that they had some sort of farm operation. It may be that their mother gave their names as residing in Smelser Grove.

In 1880, George is with his mother Nancy in Town of Smelser, Wisconsin. In 1900, he is shown as married to Ellen and residing in Cuba City, Wisconsin.

By 1910, George, Ellen, and their children are in Waterloo, Iowa, and appear to have spent the rest of their lives there. We take Ellen's maiden name from a birth registration for one of their children. Find-a-Grave has a photo of their gravestone in Calvary Cemetery in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa.
