| Note | No marriage record for John and Catherine has been found. We have the statement of the Vrooman Family history of 1949 to the effect that Catherine married John Ramsey and little else. Catherine is still with her father and stepmother in Brock Township at the time of the 1851 census. It appears that by 1861, she is with John Ramsey in Mariposa Township in Victoria County and with them are children William, age 2, and Thos. Henry, age 1. Also with the family, and rather illegibly written is a 16 year old spinster. Careful examination suggests that she is Lois S. Vroman. The interpretation of the last name may be open to debate, but the given name and initial is Lois S. This may be as close to confirming the relationship of Catherine to James and Rhoda Vrooman as we get, for she did have a sister, Lois Samantha, and her age approximates what we believe to be her birth year.
No death registration has been found for Catherine. We last see her in the 1881 census at Markham. Other researchers place her death in the mid 1880s. We may say, however, that John Ramsey married a second time to Janie Ann Mellon on February 10, 1886, in Toronto. |
