Marriage | (--?--) Smith married Rachel Vrooman, daughter of Adam Vrooman and Margaret Mattice, in 1798.
According to the story provided by descendants of Daniel Vrooman, son of Admiral Nelson Vrooman, Rachel was never married to 'Smith'. Based on Nelson's birth in 1799, we can only approximate the year of Rachel's relationship with 'Smith' who was said to be an English soldier. |
Note | Our best source of information for 'Smith', the purported first husband of Rachel Vrooman (per the 1949 Vrooman Family history), is the story as passed down via descendants of Daniel Vrooman, son of Admiral Nelson Vrooman. They tell that he, Smith, was an English soldier and that he and Rachel had a liason. Admiral Nelson Vrooman was the result of this relationship, which, according to the family story, was the cause of a scandal.
