This will represent a county marriage. On the original page a town or township may appear, but this information is not presently available. The above is found on a web page provided by ilgenweb. |

Note | The 1840 census in Winnebago County, Illinois, shows George Vrooman. Two households away is shown the household of Adam Vrooman. Since Adam, son of George, was approximately age 12 in 1840, we must believe that there was another Adam Vrooman in the area. Via Ilgenweb, we find a marriage in Jo Daviess County on February 12, 1837, page 41 of the marriage book between Adam Vroman and Alathea Wadams. On April 18, 1845, there was an application for a divorce between Adam and Alathea Vroman. It is difficult to be sure, but the circumstantial evidence is such that he is likely who the Vrooman Family book of 1949 refers to as 'Little Adam', the son of Nicholas Vrooman and Maria Swits. More of this elsewhere. To return to Adam Vrooman, the son of George Laws Vrooman: The Jo Daviess marriage record show a marriage between Adam Vrooman and Elizabeth Bartlett on 22 November, 1849. The 1850 census indicates that Adam was the son of George L. Vrooman, but he is clearly documented as such in the proceedings regarding the estate of George which the children were contesting with Sarah, George's second wife. One of the signatories to the proceeding is Andrew Simmons, guardian of Keturah, daughter of Adam Vrooman. It must be said that source information regarding the death of Adam Vrooman is in conflict. One record places his death in May of 1864 at Andersonville Prison. Family friends, in their deposition regarding Keturah's petition for her father's pension, say he died on or about 27 February 1864 in Richmond, Virginia, while a prisoner and that he died of chronic diarrhea, chills and fever. |
