ID # 1377, (1846-)
Father | James Vrooman (1820-1868) |
Mother | Eliza Smith (1824-1909) |
Birth | Margaret Vrooman was born in 1846. |
Marriage | She married William Smith, son of Milo Smith and Ellen Main, on 21 March 1866 at Wellington County. MS248 reel 17, Vol. 79, page 172 Wellington County Extract from returns of Robert Brown, Pastor of the Congregational Church, Garafraxa, Wellington Co., C.W. William Smith, 22, born Canada, residing Michigan. Parents Mila and Jane. Margaret Vrooman, 19, born Canada, residing Garafraxa. Parents James and Eliza Vrooman. Witnesses Charles Stewart and James Walker, both of Garafraxa. On March 21, 1866. At some level William Smith was almost certainly a cousin of Margaret's on her mother's side. Margaret's parents were both living when she was married in 1866. The county marriage registers do not typically name the location of the marriage, but in all probability it was held in West Garafraxa Township. |
Note | At the time of the 1880 U.S. census at Big Prairie, Newaygo County, Michigan, Margaret's brother James, his wife Mary, and their daughter Ada, are with the Smith family. Initially, our list of William and Margaret's first four children is taken from the 1880 U.S. census as enumerated in Big Prairie, Newaygo County. The 1900 census taken at Aetna, Mecosta County, shows a son Russell born in 1884. This is likely Thomas R. Smith. |
