John Main appears on page 2, Dist. 51, Kearney Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey. He is shown as an 'oil purifier', age 27, born December of 1872. His wife is shown as Lina, born Michigan in March of 1875, age 27. They have a daughter named Neva born in July of 1896 in New Jersey. By 1910, John G. Main is shown in Appleton City, Ontagamie, Wisconsin, as a travelling salesman oil. He is 37, born Michigan, parents born Canada. Lina is shown as the same age and daughter Neva is now 13. She is shown as born in New Jersey. In 1920, John G. Maine is shown in Rockford Twp., Winnebago County, Illinois, with wife Lina. Neva Main appears in Rock Island, Illinois. She is described as the 'physical director' at the YWCA. In 1930, John G. Main is in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois, and still with wife Lina. A Neva Anderson appears in the 1930 census in Fargo, North Dakota, born New Jersey and both parents born Michigan. There are some stroked out lines and then Neva is shown first as 'wife' (to who is not clear) and then this was stroked out and the word 'roomer' overwritten. FamilySearch has a transcription for the death of John G. Main in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois, dated 18 June, 1944. Most records found for John record his middle name as initial G. only, but we now have his World War 1 draft card which records him as John Gamble Main of 601 Woodlawn Avenue, Rockford, Illinois, age 45, born December 20, 1872, wife's name Lina. He is obviously named after his mother's foster father, John Gamble of Beverly Township, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada.
