Stan was the sponsor of the Broder's Chinooks basketball team that competed in Sr. "A" men's basketball. They won four straight provincial championships from 1958/59 to 1961/62 and three Canadian Championships (Dominion Championship) in 1958/59, 1960/61 and 1961/62. The team was inducted into the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. The Stan Broder Trophy is awarded annually to the CanadaWest men's basketball championship team.

He died on 27 September 1989 in Victoria, British Columbia, at age 60.6 His funeral was held on 30 September 1989 in Victoria, British Columbia.6
Stanley's obituary appeared in the Times Colonist, Victoria, British Columbia, on 1 October 1989.6
